Could you live in a 300-square-foot apartment?

New Yorkers are used to living in cramped surroundings, where space is a luxury afforded to only the wealthy.

And soon some Manhattanites will really feel the squeeze.

On Monday, Mayor Bloomberg launched a contest to develop  micro units — which are closetlike flats are 275 to 300 square feet .

Yes, they are larger than a jail cell, but just! The micro units are big enough for a bathroom, kitchen and sleeping and dining room, though the Mayor admits that little entertaining will be had in these teeny-weeny apartments

Just as a FYI, Bloomberg’s 12,500-square-foot upper East Side townhouse is about 40 times as big as the micro units.

Our question to you is, could you live in one?

What do you think?

I already have! My first year of grad school I lived in Chicago in a teeny 250 sq foot studio. I hated the size but I loved the area! Would I do it again? Probably not, I really enjoy having friends over and its practically impossible within those tight quarters.
