No one has to worry about the problems in Chi-Chi’s kitchen anymore but in 2003, this chain was responsible for the largest hepatitis A outbreak in U.S. history with nearly 700 victims in the Pittsburgh area. The company went bankrupt a month later, settled all of their lawsuits by the next year and the company’s name has since been bought by Hormel Foods to sell salsa and tortilla chips. We think this one is both terrifying and sad.
#2 Taco John’s
In 2006, this chain was responsible for a large E. coli outbreak through their locations in Texas, North Dakota and Iowa. It was traced back to the growing fields in California where the chain received produce. The company took a hit in sales for a while but have since bounced back.
#3 Cracker Barrel
Cracker Barrel had to recall hamburgers from 313 restaurants after a customer cut her mouth on metal embedded in a meat patty. Now, that’s terrifying!
n 2009 a couple of Domino’s employees made a video of the disturbing things that allegedly went on in the kitchen. In the video, they stuck cheese up their nose and put salami in questionable places before serving the ingredients up in a sandwich. This is not how Domino’s operates and the pair were fired immediately, but we still think this is terrifyingly gross!
Everyone wants to “eat fresh” but those visiting some Subway restaurants may get more than they bargained for. The chain has an average of 98 violations out of every 100 inspections. This is not as bad as some other chains but it’s still not perfect.
