Last year was perhaps one of the most turbulent and tumultuous of Michael Lohan’s life. Between various serious health scares, he is lucky to be alive.
Today, he celebrates his 52nd birthday, and reflects on his past, but also looks confidently forward to his future.
We caught up with him and discussed his mistakes, things he would change if he could, and how he and his ex-wife Dina, are thawing their frosty relationship.
Celebzter: It is your birthday today, how will you be celebrating?
Michael: I plan going to the gym, I got a gift certificate to a spa then I am going to have a quiet dinner with someone very special to me.
Celebzter: You had quite the traumatic year last year, what with your health, do you feel lucky to be here right now?
Michael: Lucky is definitely the wrong choice of words because I do NOT believe in luck. I do believe in fate, destiny and blessings. And yes, I am blessed to made it through the rough times. (Mine, family members and loved ones). They’ve all been learning experiences which I have used to better me, my relationships and especially my relationship with God.
Celebzter: Was there a moment in the midst of those health issues when you thought you might not make it?
Michael: Which time? The car accident, the cancer, the three-story fall, the heart attack, the blood clot, the staph”mursa”infection etc. etc.? Yes, I think so, but I was okay with it if I did pass. The only regret I would have is the pain suffered through my loss, by lived ones!
Celebzter: What got your through your darkest times?
Michael: The things that got me through the darkest times were God, my faith, hope in/for others, family and the ones I loved ( even at a “distance”).
Celebzter: Birthday’s are a time for reflection when we think about the things we wished we had of done differently….is there anything you wish you could change?
Michael: Definitely my divorce because it could have been handled differently (like I wanted from the beginning).
Things I wish i could change are to have more privacy, not being a target, and getting on the same page with Dina (we’re getting there)
Celebzter: What gives you joy and happiness?
Michael: Good, peaceful and loving relationships
Celebzter: In terms of love, have you made mistakes? Do you ever wish things had of worked out with Dina?
Michael: Sure, at a time I did , but time passes, some people and things change and some don’t. My goal is to always forgive, be forgiven, make amends and move on as good and supportive parents to our children and friends with each other, (as we are beginning to be again). Thank God
Celebzter: Are you ready for love again? What qualities would you now be looking for in a partner?
Michael: YESSSS! I was, I have been and am. I want someone who appreciates all I do and the sacrifices I make. Love IS sacrifice and its forgiving as I was, am and always will be. It knows no bounds!I just ask that the person I am in love with and love,simply appreciate me and the things I do with a thank you, a card or even a random kiss. I expect that the person I love, doesn’t let others or their opinions come between us. When you are in love with someone, THAT person comes first! No questions.
