Leaving politics to one side momentarily, the other name on everyone’s lips today (Friday) is Ben Affleck.
With his latest flick Argo being touted as one of the best films of the year and likely to land him another Oscar, the rebirth of Ben is an extraordinary sight to behold.
Here are four reasons why we applaud Affleck…
1) He’s handsome and astute.
Good looks and charm helped make Affleck a celluloid pin-up, but his turns behind the camera have earned him more plaudits with critics. There’s no doubt he has an abundance of talent.
2) He left his wild ways in the past and has embraced being a family man
Having gone to rehab at 29, Affleck has cleaned up and grown up. After a string of high-profile romances and rumored dalliances, Affleck appears to be the consummate family man since marrying Jennifer Garner in 2005. Seven years and three children later, he still gushes about his wife.
“[My wife] truly is kind,” he says. “She means no one any harm. She doesn’t have ill will for any person.”
3) He still talks to Jennifer Lopez despite the fact their on-screen collaboration almost ruined his career.
Who could forget the Bennifer Part 1 days? The glitz the glamor, and err, “Gigli”. Universally panned, to say it was a flop, would be an understatement.
But Affleck doesn’t hold any grudges. In fact, he revealed he still talks to Lopez.
“We don’t have the kind of relationship where she relies on me for advice, but we do have the kind of relationship where there’ll be an e-mail saying, ‘Oh, your movie looks great,’” Affleck said. “I remember when she got ‘American Idol.’ I said: ‘This was really smart. Good luck.’ I touch base. I respect her. I like her. She’s put up with some stuff that was unfair in her life, and I’m really pleased to see her successful.”
4) One word: Argo.
Affleck directed and stars in “Argo,” a true story about a CIA operative who goes undercover to rescue six American hostages out of 1979 Iran. The movie opens in theaters today and we can’t wait!
