It was always going to be somewhat of a controversial show, particularly when you enlist Russell Brand as a host.
And last night’s MTV Movie Awards failed to disappoint.
Right oft the back, Brand was out to stir up some trouble.
After joking how Kim Kardashian’s short-lived marriage to Kris Humphries took the pressure of him, he went on to say: “The last MTV awards show I hosted I ended up marrying someone who was there, so I will be keeping my eyes peeled tonight for my next wife.”
We’re not sure that the comedian, who met Perry while hosting the MTV Video Awards back in 2009, was entirely joking.
Elsewhere, Jennifer Aniston wasn’t celebrated as she is generally accustomed to: The actress now goes down in the MTV Movie Awards history as the first person ever to win the Dirtbag Award, and sealed the gong for her performance as a sex crazed dentist in Horrible Bosses.
The 43-year-old took it on her stride, saying: “I mean, do you know how long I have tried to have somebody let me unleash my on-screen dirtbag? A really long time. And thank God this category just popped up.
“So I would like to say “thank you” to the television show ‘Friends’ for letting me unleash the inner sweetheart and here’s to [director] Seth Gordon for allowing me to be a dirtbag.”
The biggest winners of the night were the teen blockbuster movie The Hunger Games and its young stars, who in total swept up four awards.
As expected, Twilight continued to rule as it took home the coveted Movie of the Year award as well as Best Kiss.
However, one of the evening’s most touching moments came when Christian Bale gave an emotional introduction to the upcoming Batman film, after footage of Heath Ledger as the Joker was shown beforehand.
