Interview: Dancer Michael Silas on Lady Gaga, passion, and the importance of acceptance

Michael Silas is living every professional dancer’s dream: For three years now, he has been touring the globe with the biggest pop sensation in the world, Lady Gaga.

Prior to that, he also worked with Solange Knowles and Kelly Rowland.

Here, in this interview, he reveals his tips on how to succeed in the cut- throat world of dancing, and also shares his advice for those people, who at times, feel like they don’t belong.

Celebzter: How did you get involved in being a professional dancer?

Michael: I was always fascinated with dance and music, but after meeting Solange Knowles and getting a taste of almost touring with her I knew it was something I wanted to do. Shortly after that I booked a world tour with Kelly Rowland and before you know it I ended up getting an agent, and after tour moved to LA! now here I am.

Celebzter: Was it something you’ve always wanted to do?

Michael: To be honest I thought i was going to do something in Graphic designs when I was about 13, but dance never left me. So It was destiny, I guess.

Celebzter: You have been working with Lady Gaga for three years now, how would you describe that experience?

Michael: I can’t talk about that experience specific but working with Music Superstars that I have been blessed to work with is like living in a constant dream come true!

Celebzter: You’ve probably had a whole host of wonderful experiences, what are five top moments thus far?

Michael: Moving to America in 1994, Having my parents never turning their back on me when I was outed as a teenager, Touring the world for the first time with Kelly Rowland in 2002,  Moving to LA, And seeing my dreams become reality…one more! My first arena performance with Gaga in my Hometown and having over 50 people there supporting me!

Celebzter: What professionally do you want to do next?

Michael: I want to share my life’s lessons and experiences by giving back to the next person that has dreams like me! Helping new Artist explore their artistry and become the superstars we all want to be! Having my own inspirational Reality Show/Dance Convention and My Dance apparel/merchandise line!

Celebzter:  You’ve talked about your own struggles with coming out, can you tell us about this?

Michael: Well, I didn’t get to “come out” I was actually ‘outed’ by someone I considered an associate. It was a big relief but not the ideal way I would have wanted to do it! Needless to say, 13 years later my family and I are super close!

Celebzter: Can you tell us what it is like to have acceptance and a message you want to share with others struggling with such issues?

Michael: You know we all want the acceptance of our peers, parents our friends! But the truth of the matter the on acceptance you need is YOUR OWN! If I can help someone with any advice!  Always know tomorrow is a new day! Pick your head up and never let anyone tell you who you are or what you can do!

Celebzter: What is your advice to people wanting to get into dance?

Michael: Always let your passion be the driving force! Never get discouraged by the No’s! Because when that YES! comes you will remember why!

Celebzter: Which one celeb would you like to meet or dance for?

Michael: I wish I could have met Michael Jackson! Would love to have a talk with him and see what kind of advice he could offer a man like me with a dreaming mind.
