They may have thought they were being funny, but two Australian DJs have found themselves in hot water after calling King Edward VII Hospital in central London, where Kate Middleton is currently being treated, and pretended to be the Queen and Prince Charles in order to obtain information about the Duchess.
The hospital has now launched an investigation after 2Day FM DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian managed to speak to a private nurse, who revealed details on Kate’s condition, who is suffering severe morning sickness.
“She’s sleeping at the moment and she has had an uneventful night,” the nurse who answered the call revealed.
John Lofthouse, King Edward VII Hospital chief executive, confirmed that his staff had passed on information about Kate, saying: “This was a foolish prank call that we all deplore.”
A hospital spokesman added: “King Edward VII’s Hospital Sister Agnes can confirm that an Australian radio station made a hoax call to the hospital in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
“This call was transferred through to a ward and a short conversation was held with one of the nursing staff. King Edward VII’s Hospital deeply regrets this incident.”
