NBC comes under fire–Again! This time for an awkward segue

What has NBC done right with its Olympic overage? Not a lot.The tape delays and the fact that everyone knows who wins prior to the actual event being broadcast hasn’t won the network many fans.

Now, there is this…

After Gabby Douglas won the gold and Bob Costas spoke about how amazing this was for the first African-American to win the women’s all-around gymnastics title, NBC aired a commercial of a monkey doing gymnastics.

The question spreading around the internet is, is this racist, or just a lack of foresight from the editing team?

But with 10 hours between the time Douglas won the gold and it being aired, one would have thought that someone might have picked it up that perhaps, the commercial might not be the appropriate segue.

Let us know your thoughts….

I don’t watch NBC anymore.   I stopped watching the Tonight Show, when they screwed Conan over….but I still watched the Today Show :-(   Now that they screwed Ann over….I am over NBC.   Although some of Ann’s interviews made me cringe…..I thought the way they handled it was wrong.   So…..I’m not surprised that they keep screwing up their coverage of the Olympics.

I’m in the same situation, UPC. I still watch for Parks & Rec and Community…though I’d be shocked if they get anything more than one more season…but otherwise NBC is dead to me. They are the kings of poor decision making. I started answering NBC surveys over the last few months, and it’s obvious by their questions that they are clueless as to why they are so miserably failing in every way.

In regards to the commercial, I don’t think it’s racist. It’s a male monkey and I’ve seen similar ads. I think the monkey itself is gross and I don’t understand why NBC thinks people will like it (actually, I do…it’s called “people liked the monkey in “The Hangover” so maybe it will make them tune into NBC?”). Poor taste, yes, no matter what athlete they air it after.

It seems like prime time tv has gone down hill, ever since the writer’s strike…and all the lame reality shows began to appear….proving that it really is all about the writing.  I think that CBS has a pretty good line up right now tho.
