New reports coming out of Egypt are shocking and causing disbelief.
According to reports, the Islamist-dominated parliament is attempting to introduce a controversial new law which will see the minimum age of marriage lowered to 14 and the ridding of women’s rights of getting education and employment.
If this is not deplorable enough to the basic rights of women in the country, another part of the reformed structure is said allow Egyptian husbands to legally have sex with their dead wives for up to six hours after their death.
Egypt’s National Council for Women is reportedly campaigning against the changes, saying that “marginalizing and undermining the status of women would negatively affect the country’s human development”.
Meanwhile, TV anchor Jaber al-Qarmouty spoke out about his disgust at the so-called “Farewell Intercourse” draft law.
“This is unbelievable. It is a catastrophe to give the husband such a right! Has the Islamic trend reached that far? Is there really a draft law in this regard? Are there people thinking in this manner?”
