Going platinum blonde was just one step in Miley Cyrus’s reinvention. Now she’s gone and chopped her long locks off. Bold, blonde and super, super short, the 19-year-old is leaving her Hannah Montana past on the salon floor.

And she led her Twitter followers through her dramatic transformation.

After posting a photo of stylist Chris McMillan (yes, he of Jennifer Aniston fame) about to cut off her very blonde bun, the singer wrote: “it’s happening”.

Miley has said previously that this day was coming.

During an interview with ABC several years ago, Cyrus revealed: “One day I’m going to cut my hair like [Twiggy], I know I am… I will one day.”

The star, who is engaged to The Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth is loving her edgy new look.

“Never felt more me in my whole life,” she tweeted.

And she had some choice words for any naysayers out there, adding: “my dad @billyraycyrus used to tell me “opinions are are like (a–)holes every body has one… LOVE my hair ❤ feel so happy, pretty, and free.”
