Model/Actress Nicole Jackson aims to set example in charity causes.
“ People ask me why I am studying English and communications, it’s so I can use words and the power of the media to transform lives who have been victimized and not had a voice.” said the stunning Southern California raised beauty.
When you meet Nicole you know immediately she is different, there is sincerity in her voice and here twinkle in her beautiful eyes go on forever. Today I won’t be as lucky as I was to meet her face to face during the Miss North Hollywood pageant series. It’s Monday early in the morning and I caught up with Nicole in her University lecture hall for the interview, one which I would do through text and Facebook chatting. How ironic, it was going to take place long distance through her communications class. I told her, “look around the communications classroom, because you are about to communicate a compassionate story that needs to get out, and you will be doing it from right there in your classroom via Facebook relaying the story onto me.” What a new world we live in.
And so the interview went about:
CelebZter: Do you do any work with charities?
Nicole: Yes, I have been passionately involved with charity fundraisers to support children and women through organizations such as the The Invisible Children and Rapha House. Both organizations touched my heart because they’re a cause for young children and women who have been exploited, drugged, raped, murdered, and victimized through unimaginable situations; there is a special place in my heart for such innocent people. I also did the AIDS walk (might do it again this year) and I will be modeling for two designers dedicated to using their clothing line worldwide to help fund and support compassionate charities. ( Angel B and Aros Crysotos)
CelebZter: Did you sell cookies to raise money for charity? Because your cookies are so good you could raise tons of money with them? What do you feel passionate about?
Nicole: I never thought of selling cookies…but if I did, I would use the proceeds to fund something like The Invisible Children or the Rapha houses. In terms of my future, I am attending California State University of Long Beach as an English major with a goal pointing towards earning my PHD and being able to teach at a university as a professor, I am also on the third chapter of my first novel, and often write poetry.
CelebZter: Oh my, this is getting good, I am talking to the next Audrey Hepburn…who also dedicated her life to helping out Africa, articulate and educated.
Nicole: Modeling, runway, and acting are all play a huge role in my dreams and aspirations, but my goal is to balance my education with my current career in the industry and making my career purpose driven for good causes.
CelebZter: So what draws you into their story, the invisible children and Rapha house, what makes you care?
Nicole: Audrey Hepburn and Angelina Jolie are my role models in the industry.
If I were to reach that point of fame and success as they did (or come even close), I would use my name to become an ambassador for one of the larger charities, while still supporting the ones I started out with. Through all of this, I hope to make a difference in the world- no matter how big or small- and set an example to the rest of the young ladies out there that nothing is impossible.
CelebZter: Why do you care?? Why not just twerk like Miley and stick out your tongue to the media and drive a Ferrari like Justine Bieber and get speeding tickets and let someone else deal with the needs of Rapha House and the Invisible Children??
Nicole: I have a heart for those truly less fortunate than myself, as I always say, I feel blessed to have what I have and be where I am. I truly feel that I am here for a reason, so that I can speak out and be the voice for those who don’t have one. I want to do all this because I don’t take what I have for granted, unlike most of the irresponsible, immature young stars out there. I envision a bright future ahead of me, and know that I have had more opportunities and resources than most, especially over in third world countries, so if I can’t directly help them, I want to indirectly help with my words (my poetry, etc.) and my actions (fundraisers, charity, donating, and raising awareness).
Brought to tears: How many lives changed from modeling to Ambassador for Causes:
Nicole: Yes, I cried and was moved when I saw the documentary on the invisible children video called “Go,” that is very moving. Basically these children are kidnapped at a very young age, usually their whole village is massacred by this war criminal Joseph Kony and his army, and these kids are manipulated through drugs, and turned into child soldiers. I was moved by this video, and the heart-wrenching videos for the Rapha House organizations. We watched interviews of the girls who escaped the sex slave world and how they were trapped and forced to prostitution against their will. That was very moving in particular because as a female I can only imagine how horrible and traumatic it would be. It frustrates me that while all this horrific stuff is going on, people are wasting their lives away partying and messing up the community that we live in while only an ocean away, children aren’t worrying about how they’re going to get their next blunt, they are wondering how they’re going to get their next meal.
Oscar Winning Actress and Unicef Ambassador Audrey Hepburn made her legacy mostly as a humanitarian, despite being one the world’s most timeless beauties
The interview had finished and by this time Nicole was out of her classroom and already in her car still texting back replies. It was time to go but we will have to stay plugged into Nicole’s plan as she heads towards big goals like the Miss USA and earning her PHD while serving the less fortunate in the world.
Poem by Nicole Jackson
I fight, fight with all my might
Into the dawn of the night
My skin is pelted with the rain
Not from the sky but from their pain
No mercy have we offered here
But all are now struck down with fear
So stop your tears, we feel no sorrow
Mere giddy lust for blood tomorrow
Sprayed with the blood of my brothers
Sticky and sweet, it may be my mother’s
Cock my gun and pull the trigger
No hesitation to kill this nigger
Surprise attack we’ll hunt them down
Till’ we bask in blood-red rivers of this town
Before me kneels my own blood pleading for life
His last expression-astonishment filled with strife
I swing the blade and slash off his head
For I’ll do whatever Mr. Kony said
Though my enemy stands twice my size
Ruthless slaughter wins best prize
We kill, kill with all our will
Until the night is standing still
Uganda’s child soldiers we are
Forever tainted with this scar
More people will be crying under the mistletoe this week as opposed to kissing under it
