She had been scheduled to take her leave of medical absence starting from Friday, but this morning Robin Roberts announced she was leaving earlier due to things that are happening at home.
Namely, she wants to ensure that she is with her ailing mother, Lucimarian, who lives in the hurricane zone of Mississippi .
“Some things happened at home,” said Robin Roberts this morning, explaining that today would be her last ”Good Morning America” show “for a while.”
She also went on to add that things with her mother had ”gotten to a point” where she and sister, Sally-Ann, who is her bone marrow donor, “need to get home.”
After her visit, Roberts then faces her own ordeal as she will be treated for myelodysplastic syndrome (known as “MDS”) and is starting preparations to undergo a bone-marrow transplant.
During the show, Roberts admitted that there is no timetable for her return, but she said she would get back as soon as she can.
She also shared one of her favorite quotes: “‘Life provides losses and heartbreak for all of us. But the greatest tragedy is to have the experience and miss the meaning.’ I am determined not to miss that meaning.”
