See It: Lonely elephant has learnt to talk - Scientists confirmed Friday that Koshik, a 22-year-old Asian elephant at Everland Zoo in South Korean can use his trunk to reproduce human vocabulary

First there was NoC, the white whale who could mimic human words and was keen to tell divers to get out his pool.

NoC, sadly is no longer with us, but now another amazing animal story has emerged– that of Koshik  the elephant, who has been learning how to speak in a  human-like voice.

The 22-year-old male, housed in a South  Korean zoo,  places the end of his trunk in his mouth and, rather than coming  out as a low rumble, the sound matches human speech in pitch and tone.

He can only speak five words (all in Korean), but scientists say that Koshik learnt  to “talk” because he was lonely.
