Romance is alive and well at the Davenport University.
On Friday night, during the Michigan school’s Midnight Madness event, coach Craig Heatherly took his girlfriend, Linaya Hass, by surprise by proposing to her.
And it was his unique approach that even left even the crowd floored– he dressed up as the university’s mascot to pop the question.
During the dance off, he faked an injury and dropped to his knee which prompted the announcer to call in Hass, the school’s dance coach, to perform in a tie-breaker.
As Hass came over to help, Heatherly took off the head of the costume, revealing himself and a ring.
“It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a long time and the idea just hit me one day while driving,” Heatherly, the basketball team’s assistant coach, told MLive.com of the engagement.
Watch it below (do bear through the moments when it is not as crystal clear as it could be– it’s worth viewing until the end).
