This time last week, the world was left reeling as news broke that Katie Holmes was ending her marriage to Tom Cruise.
And since last Friday, every detail has been breathlessly reported almost every minute of the day. Is anyone exhausted by the oversaturation of coverage? Well, it certainly shows no signs of abating anytime soon.
It also appears that Katie Holmes is almost flirting with the intense media spotlight shining upon her. For the past three days, she has taken little Suri out and about in Manhattan, playing the role of the devoted mom.
Two things of note: Kate, herself, looks to have lost a significant amount of weight, and this was particularly evident when she stepped out wearing a blue and orange halterneck top which showed off her bony back (also, gasp, she wasn’t wearing a bra).
Secondly, forget the headlines surrounding Suri that the divorce is starting to take a toll on her- this is not the case. What is taking a toll on her, is being dragged around the city with photographers capturing her every move (you just have to watch the clips at the end of this piece to see the impact it is having upon her).
And more and more signs are pointing to the fact that Holmes had been planning her great getaway for months.
Her timely interview, conducted just six weeks ago, in America’s Elle magazine, where she says she is entering a “new phase” and feels “sexier” seems to foreshadow the events that would soon unravel.
Throughout the interview she tried to deflect questions away from the subject of Cruise.
It does appear that the information being filtered out to the media is heavily pro-Holmes and anti-Cruise, and this is something that has not been lost on Cruise and his team.
On Wednesday, we wrote how Cruise’s lawyer, Bert Fields, said they were letting the Holmes team “play the media until they wear everyone out and then we’ll have something to say”.
He added: ”It’s not Tom’s style to do this publicly. He is really sad about what’s happening.”
Now, it’s also emerging that the divorce ”is not a fight over religion” with a source telling TMZ that it “being used as a way to hurt Tom.”
What is also being used to hurt Cruise at the moment, is his six-year-old daughter Suri, who he has only been able to communicate with via the phone on a daily basis.
Interestingly, the source who spoke to TMZ revealed that the explanation as to why the marriage came to an abrupt halt would soon come to light.
One thing is for certain: This is shaping up to be one of the nastiest battles in Hollywood for quite some time and watching these clips below, you really can’t help but feel for Suri, who is a pawn in what will become an increasingly ugly game.
