Sometimes there are stories that defy belief. This week, our hands down favorite, is the tale of New Jersey mother, Patricia Krentcil, who was arrested (but has pleaded not guilty) to allegedly allowing her five-year old daughter, Anna, to enter a stand-up tanning booth. We must make it clear, however, it wasn’t her actions that have kept us enthralled, by any means.
Following her arrest, Krentcil has found herself firmly in the spotlight, with her charcoal, leather-faced appearance being the focal point.
And the 44-year-old isn’t taking the attention too well… at all.
Yesterday, when she was approached by a reporter for TMZ, the angry mom lashed out.
“I’m a great mother, and I would never do that to my child,” Krentcil said while loading her shopping into a car.
But the best was still to come,….
In possibly what is the most perplexing comment yet, Krentcil, whose unnaturally dark appearance lead late-night host Jimmy Kimmel to compare her with Wile E. Coyote after the dynamite stick blows up, claimed, quite extraordinarily, that people were envious of her appearance.
“They’re jealous, they’re fat and they’re ugly,” she said, adding ”there’s somebody out there my whole life who doesn’t like me.”
She agreed with the reporter’s suggestion that she could be the victim of dark forces, but she’s not letting the townsfolk or the accusations get her down, and it’s business as usual for her… which means diving back into her obsessive tanning regime.
“I’ve been tanning my whole life,” she told reporters outside her home yesterday. “I’m from Long Island. I go to Cabo. It’s my relaxation.”
She also insisted that she would continue to maintain her 20 monthly visits to the tanning salon.
“Without a doubt,” she said. “I gotta go.”
Meanwhile, a leading Dermatologist says Krentcil’s ‘tanorexic’ condition is ‘craziest thing I’ve ever seen’.
Dr. Joshua Zeichner wrote a piece in today’s New York Daily News, where he said: “In all my years of treating patients as a dermatologist, I have never encountered anything like this.
“Going to a tanning salon 20 times a month, frankly, is insane, especially with all of the public education and awareness campaigns on the dangers of tanning beds and skin cancers.
“It may be she has an addiction to tanning, which actually now has a name — tanorexia. She may need help to treat not only the damage to her skin, but also what is going on with her psychologically.”
