Just a week ago, Karen Klein was the subject of the merciless taunts of a bunch if kids. Now, the 68-year-old is sitting on a fortune of $646,062 (and counting) after a ovewhelming public outpouring of support.
The fundraising fund, which originally had the modest goal of raising $5,000 to send her on a vacation of a lifetime, has surpassed everyone’s expectations.
So what is the Greece Central School District employee going to do with these newfound riches?
“What would anybody do with that much money?” she said during an interview on the “Today” show this morning.
She explained that she planned on investing some, donating some to charity and helping out her family.
“I keep thinking, ‘What have I done?’” she said. “It’s like I almost don’t feel like I deserve it.”
It would be interesting to find out if any of the bullies families contributed to the fund…..
Three of the students who taunted and teased bus monitor Karen Klein have issued statements apologising. While one boy’s father actually confronted the 68-year-old and issued his own personal apology for his son’s atrocious behavior.
“I am so sorry for the way I treated you,” one of the students, identified only as “Josh,” said in a statement issued by police Thursday to Anderson Cooper 360. “When I saw the video I was disgusted and could not believe I did that. I am sorry for being so mean and I will never treat anyone this way again.”
Another student, identified as “Wesley,” also issued an apology, writing: “I feel really bad about what I did. I wish I had never done those things. If that had happened to someone in my family, like my mother or grandmother, I would be really mad at the people who did that to them.”
The boys are said have received death threats following the video going viral and amassing an extraordinary 3.9 million hits as of 10am Friday.
The public outrage over the incident has also seen an overwhelming support for Klein and her “vacation fund”, which was set up by a family friend in the hopes of raising a modest $5,000.
As of this morning, the donations are currently at $472,000 and growing by the minute.
Here is one of the boy’s father’s apologising to Klein.

Now, I don’t know about you, but that broke my fucking heart. There’s even a point in the video where one of the kids touches Karen’s arm in an attempt to make fun of her. The middle school students teased, taunted and threatened the 68-year-old school bus monitor.
