In 2011, Josh Brolin described his relationship with wife Diane Lane as ”fantastic.”
Now two years later, the couple are divorcing.
A little more than eight years after they tied the knot, the Cinema Verite actress, 48, and her Gangster Squad actor husband, 45, have split, reps for the couple tell Us Weekly exclusively.
“Diane Lane and Josh Brolin have decided to end their marriage,” the reps tell Us. Adds an insider: “It was a mutual decision. It is very amicable. It’s not ugly, it’s just over.”
The spouses, who married in August 2004, split a couple of months ago. They have no children together.
The news comes just two months after Brolin was arrested for public intoxication shortly before midnight in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve.
He was booked at approximately 3am and released on $250 bail shortly thereafter.
And it wasn’t the first time he landed himself in trouble with the law — he was arrested in 2004 on a misdemeanour charge of domestic battery after Lane called police during an altercation. She later refused to press charges.
Over the past few months, we’ve seen Katie Holmes walk the streets of New York with her hair wringing wet and sans makeup. Her clothes, at times, have also seemed sloppy.
There’s been many musings as to why a celebrity with her wealth, couldn’t put herself together better.
But as it turns out, this was a deliberate move by Holmes to irritate her soon-to-be ex-husband.

He always insisted that she not step foot out of the house unless she was looking her best (full hair, makeup, clothes) because she was a “reflection of his image”.
But now that they have quietly separated, she consistently walks out of the house in casual clothes and messy hair and no makeup (even when her destination isn’t the gym). Of course, the paparazzi are there, just waiting to snap her photo. Her publicist called and said, “Do you realize how much you’re p*ssing him off when you do that?” She replied, “Absolutely!” and giggled. Sounds like it’s just her little way of reclaiming her life.

Tom Cruise had so much control over Katie Holmes during the first few years of their marriage that it was downright scary. He wanted to dictate where she went, what projects she worked on, who her friends were, and what she looked like. He even wanted her to change her professional name (“call her Kate”).
The only time Katie Holmes was “allowed” to go without makeup was when she went to the gym. Any time she dared to go without for any other reason – and was caught by the paparazzi – a lecture from Tom was sure to follow. And god forbid she should ever let her hair go grey.
We just loved this little publicist conversation story when we heard it. We also loved this photo of Katie published on April 27, 2012 with no makeup, grey hair, and a bit of a smirk on her face. Some media outlets speculated that the grey hair might be a sign that Katie was pregnant. However, we knew that the entire look was just one giant middle finger to Tom Cruise.

Notice that she too is makeup- free and in casual attire. This look of pure exhilaration must be one Holmes is experiencing today.
