Disgraced teacher, James Hooker, 42, appears in court with his former student Jordan Powers, 18, on charges of sexual misconduct with a minor

Fawning over his young lover, James Hooker quickly shot to international attention with his countless television interviews with his former student, Jordan Powers, just 18.

He declared their love for one another,  and quit his job and the couple moved in together. But the resulting media firestorm lead an alleged victim from the 1980′s to come forward, and, as a result, he was arrested.

Following a very public break-up last month after his arrest, Powers was back by his side today as Hooker made a brief court appearance for his pretrial hearing on a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor.

Powers held her former teacher’s hand in the Modesto courtroom, showing the world that she is very much standing by her man.

After appearing for less than a minute at the Stanislaus County Superior Court, Judge Thomas Zeff scheduled Hooker to return on June 12. He was allowed to leave on $50,000 bail.

The case stems from a 1998 relationship he had with a 17-year-old student from Davis High School in Modesto.

Teacher James Hooker, who moved in with his student Jordan Powers, is arrested for “sexually abusing” another student 17 years ago

He was the teacher who made headlines, and various stops on the media circuit, appearing on a whole host of TV shows where he declared his love for his former student, now lover.

James Hooker’s love affair with Jordan Powers caused a  wave of controversy.

But the 41-year-old insisted that nothing happened with the teen until after he left his job and she was 18.

However, James Hooker has now been arrested for oral copulation with a minor he taught at a California school in the 1990s.

Police said the case stems from a 1998 relationship he had with a 17-year-old student from Davis High School in Modesto.

He was arrested at his home on Friday and booked into Stanislaus County Jail, and bail was set at $50,000.

The former teacher has asked that the bail amount be reduced, and a hearing is set for Tuesday.

Police said he made friends with the girl and later developed a romantic relationship with her.

The investigation into the incident began after he announced his relationship in February with Powers, whom he taught at Enochs High School in Modesto.

.Whilst doing the TV circuit, he said that his and Jordan’s love was “real”.

“I know my family is probably disappointed in me,” he, said. “They’re probably confused in what we’re doing. I’m not sure how to explain it to them. … I am just following my heart and this is the direction I’m going in.”

We think that this has opened a whole new can of worms.

Jordan’s mom confronts James Hooker

We have written quite extensively about 41-year-old James Hooker’s relationship with his former 18-year-old student Jordan Powers.

Now this highly publicized romance has taken yet another turn.

On Tuesday, Jordan’s mom, Tammie Powers came face-to-face with the man who she claims has  ”no moral compass” on Dr Phil.

“I think you are arrogant,” she told him on the show. “I think you are self-serving. I think you are selfish. I think you are ruining my child with this.”

And despite the fact that James claims that he and Jordan weren’t intimate until she turned 18, Tammie remains unconvinced.

“He [Hooker] shouldn’t be with students,” she said. “I’d like to see him arrested. I’d like to get information from when she was a minor and have him arrested.”

She added: ”You’ve already had your kids, your wife, your marriage, your kids. She hasn’t,” Tammie Powers said to Hooker on the show. “She’s just starting. How dare you take that from her.”

James, surprisingly handled the verbal attack well, saying: ”I just love her. We hope you are OK with that, too.”

Tammie Powers said she “will never be OK with it” and said their relationship felt like “a custody dispute.”

What to make of this chaotic love story, only time will tell.

James Hooker is a sexual predator, claims therapist

It’s the romance that continues to grab headline inches, and divide the public.

Now, a therapist is weighing on James Hooker’s relationship with Jordan Powers.

During a segment today on Good Morning America, which again featured the couple, therapist Bethany Marshall said the 41-year-old and the 18-year-old are experiencing a syndrome called “shared paranoia” , and that James is “pathologically immature”.

She said: “Like most sex predators, he is identified age-wise with the victim. This is what you see with pedophilia, with offending patterns, with teachers who have sex with students.

“They always talk about the student as if they and the student are the exact same age. James does what sex offenders often do. He disavows culpability while doing the same actions he’s saying he’s not responsible for.”

Are James & Jordan the new Mary Kay & Vili?

His relationship with his former student has continued to enrage a nation….even days after the story came to light.

But, why, when so many other clandestine teacher-student relationship occur, has the romance between James Hooker and Jordan Powers captured the attention of the public so much?

Perhaps, it is because James has seemingly enjoyed the attention, getting off every moment he is in the spotlight.

But a month down the line, when the headlines have all but dried up and the police investigation has reached fever pitch, what will become of the 41-year-old teacher and his 18-year-old lover?

Mary Kay Letourneau made international headlines when it was revealed that she was having a sexual relationship with her 12-year-old student Vili Fualaau — a relationship that netted her a seven-year prison sentence for child rape.

Though their relationship continues, she has said she would never wish that upon her own daughters and would urge them to “wait”.

“You want your children to wait,” she has said. “You want them to be productive adults, to get an education first, and experience all sorts of actual fun.”

She also added that there is a difference between men and women.

“There really isn’t a comparison to a male in that situation compared to a female … there’s physiological issues with a female engaging in sexual activity.”

Is it the same situation with James and Jordan?

Well, no one can make that assumption until the details of exactly when their affair started are revealed… but we don’t believe this relationship flourished only AFTER she turned 18…

James Hooker is not the only teacher making headlines

James Hooker raised eyebrows when he shopped his “love” story with Jordan Powers to the TV networks.

But, perhaps, despite our outrage, he has helped raise awareness for a trend that seems no signs of abating: The teacher/ student relationship.

Here’s another case of that relationship crossing the boundaries and becoming far too close for comfort….

A high school teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with one of her students, who calls her ‘my precious angel’ and told police they were in love.

Stephanie Cobb, from Volusia County, Florida, was arrested yesterday and charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

The 26-year-old resigned in December after she made a 911 call to report that a friend was sending her suicidal text messages.

The anonymous call was traced to Cobb’s cell phone. She had given police the 16-year-old’s name, address and phone number, though when deputies went to the boy’s home he denied feeling suicidal.

Family members told investigators he was in a relationship and that he was ‘in over his head’, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

When she was questioned by investigators about whether or not her and the student hugged and kissed, she paused and said: ‘I don’t recall.’

When the teen was interviewed by police, he admitted they were in a relationship, that they had sex inside her car and said they were in love.

He said the relationship blossomed when he started talking to her about college plans. It got to the stage where he was visiting her every day in her classroom.

Phone records showed that the pair had traded more than 12,000 text messages and talked on the phone more than 500 times over four months.

Cobb was listed in his phone under ‘My Precious Angel’.

Cobb resigned the day after the 911 call, deputies say. She was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Volusia County Jail. Her bail was set at $25,000.

James Hooker continues to milk his relationship

While we all try to digest that he left his wife, family (and did we mention his 17-year-old daughter) for his former 18-year-old student, James Hooker seems to be basking in the spotlight, with countless media appearances lined up.

Today, he spoke out on Good Morning America how he was flabbergasted by the negative reaction his relationship has attracted.

Now, this interesting article has come to light…

Powers and Hooker appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Thursday. They were taping another segment Thursday for today.

“We have to stay exclusive with them,” Powers said, but added after their run on “Good Morning America” is done they are scheduled to appear on NBC’s “Today Show” as well as a CBS affiliate. The “Dr. Phil” and “Inside Edition” shows also want them.

None of the shows is paying them, which Powers didn’t think is right. But she feels their side needs to be told to counter widespread disapproval and criticism led by her mother, Tammie Powers. “We’re just trying to get the story out,” Jordan Powers said.

Pity the media couldn’t help chip in to fund his new life, right?

Expert Opinion: Making sense of how an 18-year-old gets swept away by her 41-year-old teacher

Earlier today we featured the report of James Hooker, who quit his teaching job, left his wife and children and moved into an apartment with one of his students, Jordan Powers, who is just ONE year older than his daughter.

So, we consulted Dr. Gilda Carle, Relationship Expert to the Stars, to give us a better insight into this unlikely relationship, and if your read her commentary, it’s easier to understand how Jordan, 18, embarked on this romance. However, it is more difficult to comprehend James’ rationale.

Dr. Gilda writes….

It’s not unusual for a teen to look up to and perhaps even have a crush on her teacher.  This happens all the time with teen women as well as with teen men who have crushes on their female teachers.

The problem is when the teacher returns the attraction and leads the student on to believe that the crush could become a reality.  Especially if the student is under age, her vulnerability and susceptibility certainly raises eyebrows.

“In loco parentis” is the contractual agreement teachers take on when they agree to teach.  That is Latin for “in place of a parent.”  So parents entrust their precious kids’ safety to these teachers.  That’s why the girl’s mother feels betrayed now, and why she’s called in the police.

You have to wonder why a 41-year-old adult male would abandon his wife and kids without remorse.  What was his former life lacking that he thinks he’ll derive in this present life with this young girl?  Does he feel more manly?  Superior? In control?

Obviously, the impressionable girl is IMPRESSED.  I hope she grows up sooner than he does!!

Today’s most disturbing story: Teacher, 41, moves in with his 18-year-old former student

There’s a lot of news out there that warrants to win the tag of the most disturbing report of the day, and today, this one left us shaking our heads in disbelief when we watched the interview.

James Hooker, 41, quit his teaching job, left his wife and children and moved into an apartment with one of his students, Jordan Powers.

The  Enochs High School teacher resigned after going public with his relationship. He claims that nothing happened between the two until Jordan turned 18.

Not surprisingly, police are now investigating evidence including 8,000 texts to see if anything inappropriate did occur, and Jordan’s furious mom has taken to Facebook to expose James as “a sick child molester” and a “perverted man in his forties”.

James has defended his relationship with Jordan, telling the Sacramento Bee: “In making our choice, we’ve hurt a lot of people. We keep asking ourselves, “Do we make everyone else happy or do we follow our hearts?’”

They say a picture speaks a thousand words, and the one above really, really  horrifies us.
