Valentine’s Day picks

By Danielle Schlass Saliman

Sure, we don’t always look forward to February 14th; if we’re single, it’s depressing, if we’re coupled it’s overwhelming, if we have a crush it’s anxiety provoking. And on top of it to decide what to give your significant other on a day you really don’t what to disappoint, oh, the pressure! This holiday, more than any other, you can rest assured, the A-listers are feeling the same way you are. After all, underneath it all, we all hope for  a little extra something (or someone) special  on the day of love. So why not take a page from Hollywood’s book and see what the celebs have their eyes on for Valentine’s Day, so you have an idea what to give him, her, or simply, you.

Fragrance is always a biggie when looking for a gift–do you give the cologne he always wears or do you buy her a perfume you know you will like even if it’s not her go to scent? Take a cue from old Hollywood with fans like Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Annette Benning,  who snatched up some of the world’s most notorious men, you can’t go wrong with the light floral, woody fusion of Krigler Blue Escapade 24. www.krigler.com

Want her to smell scrumptious (or simply want to try a new scent for yourself) Dior’s tried and true fragrances; the fruity and floral J’adore (Charlize Theron uses this) and the Italian Mandarin, Egyptian Jasmine, and Patchouli notes of Miss Dior (on Natalie Portman’s  love list) are must tries.

Jewelry is a no-brainer. You can still demand Mr. Right put a ring on it, especially if it’s early in the relationship, with this no fuss, fun, but still meaningful (hey, a diamond has meaning no matter how small), token of love.  DuePunti (http://www.duepunti-jewelry.com/),  a unique Italian jewelry brand launched a collection of non-allergenic silicone rings (my platinum ring still gives me rashes, so much for pure metals) that feature a 0.02 carat diamond mounted in silver. They come in 19 vibrant hues (obviously we would salute the most VDay-esque colors, red, white, and pink), and they’re just $98. With styleified  fans like Alessandra Ambrosio and Nicki Minaj you can’t go wrong.

The roses, tulips, orchids, blah blah are always thoughtful  (generic!), and let’s just leave the Whitman’s Sampler on the shelf at your local Hallmark–we all crave something a little more personal . Say it all with Chocomize.com, where you can literally build your own chocolate bar.  Creative gift-givers like Tommy Lee and Tori Spelling go to their site to design their own personalized Belgian chocolate bars with their favorite Valentine’s Day candies as toppings.
