Rapper Lil Wayne is said to be doing “good” as he recovers in a Los Angeles hospital from seizures.
Despite reports on late Friday night that Wayne was in a critical condition and had to have his stomach pumped when doctors found high amounts of codeine in his system and had his last rites read, it is believed that the rapper is better than the initial reports would have us believe.
CNN reports that a friend said Saturday night after visiting Lil Wayne: “He’s good, just resting.”
While his exact medical condition continues to remain unclear, what has become apparent is that Wayne’s penchant for guzzling Sizzurp may have sparked the health crisis.
And surprisingly his mom Jacida, has defended his use of the recreational drug — and unwittingly revealed that Justin Bieber has also encountered problems after reportedly using the drug.
A hard working man like my Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., has to unwind sometimes and while some of you may prefer a martini or a relaxing stroll in the park, my Lil Wayne likes to smoke a bag of weed and chase that with some double cups of strong Sizzurp – really helps him take the edge off – and it’s not like Sizzurp and weed are bad for you, I mean Justin Bieber’s only been hospitalized once or twice for that, right?“
As a FYI because we too had to google it on Friday night: Sizzurp is prescription-strength cough syrup laced with codeine and other extras that can increase the high. It has a long history in the Southern hip-hop community and it is blamed in the deaths of both DJ Screw and late UGK member Pimp C.
In a new report, the Daily Beast says that Weezy (as he is called) has had a “long habit of sipping ‘syrup, sizzurp, lean, or Texas tea’ as the real cause of his ailing health.”
But while a parade of stars have visited the 30-year-old at Cedars-Sinai, including Nicki Minaj and fellow rapper Drake, no one has addressed what really landed him in hospital with his publicist Kia Selby simply telling CNN, “Lil Wayne is doing well.”
And Mark Maine, president of Lil Wayne’s Young Money label, was quick to rubbish reports on Friday night that Wayne was in a medically induced coma, tweeting, “Dont believe the nonsense about comas and tubes to breathe … that’s false!!”
We guess only time will tell the exact state the rapper is in as he is still in intensive care
