Their contentious battle has been going on and on since the tawdry details of their divorce were made public in 2008.
But things have gone from bad….to downright nasty as Christie Brinkley and her ex-husband Peter Cook are waging a new war against each in the public domain, which erupted after the blonde beauty filed court papers in November demanding that her ex be fined $140,000 for violating a court order by sending her offensive emails and bullying her.
She also asked him to cough up an additional $32,000 for child support.
Today, Peter did an interview with ABC in which he claimed that the supermodel was trying “publicly castrate” and paint him as the bad guy as they fight over their children.
He said: “She can use her celebrity to get the media to say, ‘He’s a bad guy.’ You know … I’m not trying to sell tickets to anything. I don’t want this press. I’m not interested in it,” he said. “And there’s got to be a better way for her to do it. Go do a charitable act or something. Get your name in the paper. But stop throwing your family under the bus.”
During the interview, Peter, an architect, said he didn’t pay because he had full custody of the couple’s kids, Jack, 16 and Sailor, 13, during those five months.
“If you had $80 million, if I was a bad guy, would you let a bad guy have your children?” he ranted. “Am I the villain that you’re going to publicly castrate or the (good father) that you leave your children with?”
He added: ”I’m not here to talk about Christie Brinkley, but to defend myself,” he said. “To be called a deadbeat dad is so horrible.”
Christie Brinkley’s people hit back, with a statement which read: ”Peter Cook is the only one to go on national television spewing sexist, disgraceful, demonstrably false lies, which gives a taste of the bullying and harassment Christie has had to endure.”
“Peter is the only one who betrayed his marriage vows, embarrassed himself and hurt his family by having an affair with a teenage girl and admitting to a extensive pornography habit. And while Christie, a single mother who has been the sole provider for her family, was working on Broadway, he refused her access to her children on her one day off,” the statement continued. “Christie quietly filed a motion four months ago to try and put an end to Peter’s pattern of intimidation and ongoing smear campaign, but sadly, he responded by turning it into a self-serving circus-like publicity tour,yet again breaking the confidentiality agreement that Christie alone has upheld.”
Naturally, Peter and his team were kick to retaliate, with his attorney saying: ”This is the work of a second-rate celebrity starved for attention.”
Pity those poor kids stuck in the middle of this warfare.
