More details: Inside Mark Zuckerberg’s surprise wedding, plus the elusive question over a prenup as Facebook stocks plummet

It was a wedding that took everyone by surprise. Consider the juxtaposition: Mark Zuckerberg heads up the biggest social sharing network in the world, yet, how few of us even knew he was engaged to Priscilla Chan, let alone could have predicted a wedding was on the horizon?

Now, more details are emerging of the secret ceremony, as the inevitable questions arise about whether the pair had a prenuptial agreement, and whether it could have been a shrew business move.

But let’s get to the ceremony itself first before addressing the other issues at hand….

Life & Style magazine reports that even the designer of Priscilla’s wedding gown didn’t know she was tying the knot that day! Designer Claire Pettibone said she had no idea that Priscilla was wearing her design.

“I had no idea that she was wearing one of my dresses!” Claire tells Life & Style.

“We pretty much found out the same way everyone else did,” she says. “It was the morning, and my husband was looking at the news and saw that Mark got married. And then when he saw the picture, he kept saying, ‘The bride! The bride! The bride!’ Then I saw it.”

In fact,  Priscilla secretly bought the dress.

“It feels awesome. I’m kind of overwhelmed and honored,” Claire tells Life & Style. ”It’s just starting to sink in. It’s such a thrill, and what an impact something like this can have.”

The mag also dishes the details on what exactly happened on Saturday….they report the following….

While most guests at the wedding of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan were kept in the dark about the big event until the very last-minute, there was a handful of people who did know in advance: Priscilla’s bridesmaids!

“She told them the day before, because she gave them all their outfits to wear,” a source tells Life & Style.

And the ladies were certainly taken care of!

“They had gorgeous dresses and Louboutin and YSL shoes,” the source says. “They were all different, and they looked amazing. Priscilla is really stylish and styled each girl with something that was for their style and shape.”

Even the designer of Priscilla’s dress, Claire Pettibone, hadn’t known Priscilla chose her dress!

“She went into a bridal salon in San Francisco and used a fake name to purchase the gown,” an insider tells Life & Style. “She obviously wanted to keep the wedding under tight wraps.”

“WOW! This is my gown…I had no idea!!!” Claire tweeted about the dress on May 20.

The couple, who began dating in 2003, tied the knot at their home in Palo Alto, Calif., in front of fewer than 100 people on May 19.

“The house is a modest five-bedroom; it’s nothing over the top or insane,” the source tells Life & Style. “Nothing about [the wedding] was extravagant except that Billy Joe [Armstrong] from Green Day performed.”

“Most guests stayed at the Four Seasons and were shuttled in,” the source says.

Meanwhile, there has been no confirmation whether Zuckerberg and his bride signed a prenup.

A spokeswoman for Facebook declined to comment on whether the couple signed such the agreement.

The timing of the wedding, the day after the company’s initial public offering, could be particularly advantageous for Zuckerberg, who saw his net worth soar to $19.1 billion.

A pre-nuptial agreement would have forced Zuckerberg and his new bride Priscilla Chan to agree exactly how to split assets – including his Facebook stock – if their marriage broke up in future.

In a marriage without a prenup, or if the couple had remained unmarried, she could be entitled to half of his wealth under Californian law.

“The value of the company is absolutely known,”said Dailey. “There’s no dispute over it.”

But maybe, Zuckerberg didn’t get the best honeymoon present ever, as today, Facebook stock sank a disastrous 25 per cent on its second day of trading as a public company.

The timing coincided with the absence of financial giant Morgan Stanley’s backing of the stock, which balanced the market initially to ensure that prices wouldn’t plummet on Friday, the California company’s opening day.

The social media company’s shares fell $4.64 to $33.67 in the first minutes of trading – a decline of more than 12 per cent from Friday’s close and about 24.4 per cent from the soaring high of $45 a share.

Zuckerberg’s portion of the stock fell nearly $2 billion from the fluctuation.

It hasn’t been the easiest of moves, and many fear that the challenges ahead for Zuckerberg, what with Wall Street breathing down his back, will not only distract him from taking the company forward and continuing to push the boundaries, but will also come at a price: The death of the social networking site that so many of us have come to love.

Status Update: Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg is married

It’s been quite the week for Mark Zuckerberg. First, he took his company, Facebook, public and though shares didn’t exactly set Wall Street alight, he did raise his wealth to an estimated $19 billion.

Then yesterday, he went and got himself married…. and the world discovered his secret nuptials after he changed his status to “married” on the social networking site.

The 28-year-old wed his girlfriend of nine years, Priscilla Chan in front of less than 100 guests.

He and Priscilla, who met while attending Harvard before Zuckerberg started Facebook, tied the knot in a small ceremony in their backyard in Palo Alto, Calif., on Saturday.

The guests all thought they were coming to celebrate Chan’s graduation but were told after they arrived that the event was in fact a wedding.

“Everybody was shocked,” the guest said.

Rather than his trademark hoodie, Zuckerberg wore a suit for the ceremony, while his bride wore a traditional wedding dress.

Food was served family-style and included dishes from the couple’s favorite Palo Alto sushi restaurant. The two had been planning the marriage for four months but were waiting until Chan had graduated on May 14 to hold the wedding, the guest said.

The timing wasn’t tied to the IPO, since the date the company planned to go public was a “moving target,” the guest said

Zuckerberg designed Chan’s wedding ring, a simple ruby sparkler.
