Exclusive interview: DJ/ Rapper Ricky J on love, Demi Moore and how he hopes to inspire other musicians

In the music world he is revered as a DJ/rapper, but in January he made his way into the tabloid world after he was linked to Demi Moore.

Ricky J is a DJ/rapper from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, who is best known for the single “No Means No”, which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Canada single sales chart.

But earlier this year, he became better known for dating Demi Moore after it was reported that the pair were texting up a storm.

Here, Ricky J opens about about life, love, and well, clarifies his relationship with Demi… sort of.

Celebzter: When did you first realize that you wanted to follow a career in music?

Ricky J: When I was a kid I always was entertaining people and I had a love of music .Also once I saw Michael Jackson .Oh, I had that feeling. I felt it was meant for me, hard to explain, feels like it was always in me. However It really hit me when I was in high school I knew. I just knew.

Celebzter: When did you get your first big break?

Ricky J: Big break was when I was still a kid. I would say opening up for TLC on the Fanmail tour.. they gave me a shot and love me so much I did a few other dates with them.

Celebzter:  What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Ricky J:Wow, highlights! They always keep coming. Recently I was at Billboard Awards and that was a big highlight…. And umm I would say writing two gold singles so far. And, of course hosting Lady GaGa’s birthday party like year or so ago.

Celebzter: What do you still want to do?

Ricky J: I really wanna be able to help other talent and good people reach their goals and dreams… Along with my goals of still wanting to be released all over the world and tour the world. I still wanna act and host some TV stuff.. LOTS to do.. I can sit here for days telling you what I wanna do..

Celebzter: Is being a musician as glamorous as it is portrayed?

Ricky J: Well glamour is a double edge sword! To have the music glamour takes a lot of sacrifice.. Ya there is some great times and yes sometimes it is glamorous and there are times it is an illusion I would say. Our society wants to attach themselves to unimaginable lifestyles.  And it is up to us to live it and sometimes create it. I try to keep it real.  It has its moments though, and then it has its drawbacks..

And I’m still going after it! LOL

Celebzter: Who or what inspires you?

Ricky J: Raw Talent inspires me. Seeing the few real talents who started with minus 0 make it… Seeing the people who make it to their dreams without mom and daddy trust funds..
Celebzter: Do you think that social media is more of a help or a hindrance to musicians today?

Ricky J: For musicians I believe Social media has changed everything… In good and bad ways..
Good cause we are no longer limited in whom we can reach and connect with..whom we can gain as friends and fans and we can literally travel the world and share instantaneously with social media.
The bad is because it’s a breeding ground of sometimes vicious lies and rumors..and the social media because of file sharing does hurt the sales and so on.
Also, social media also takes people whom know how to use it as a tool and it may be simple but it is a little tricky!

Celebzter: What advice would you give to an aspiring musician?

Ricky: Aspiring musicians.. .Don’t give up… If you’re meant to do music, god will show you a path. It may not be easy or simple or fas, but if you have courage and determination and not afraid to fail forge forward and do music and write how you feel don’t let everybody’s critiques influence you easily.

Celebzter: How would you describe yourself in three words?

Ricky J: Fun, determined, persistent

Celebzter: Is love or heartbreaking more inspiring when writing material?

Ricky J: Umm Love … I try and not dwell in that subject cause sooo many people do.
If I had to choose, I’d say heartbreaking is more of an influence when writing because you are vulnerable and you when are heartbroken are at one of your truest emotions.

Celebzter: And what of these rumors that you are dating Demi Moore? Do you wish to clarify them wither way?

Ricky J: No need to clarify that up.. It is what it is…
Celebzter: What’s next on your professional agenda?

Ricky:I’m working on new music. Working on touring all over as much as I can and just staying focused. I just wanna work on music, Perform, tour, DJ and host some great parties and just live my life the way I’m supposed to.. One day at a time..Rocky J’s new album PAINT THE TOWN is in stores now!
