Exclusive interview: Vanessa Lachey opens up about impending motherhood and how she is safeguarding her child’s future

Vanessa Lachey pretty much has the whole package: Good looks, talent in abundance, a hunky husband, and now, a baby on the way.

Plus, she is smart and astute, particularly when it comes to ensuring that the planet in which we inhabit, is preserved to hand down to the next generation.

Earlier today, we caught up with the star, who spoke about the  P&G campaign “Take a Load Off” campaign which hopes to encourage people to reduce their energy consumption; why she has gone green; and how she and hubby Nick, still don’t know the sex of their unborn child.

On getting involved with the latest project, Vanessa says it came about because of her pregnancy and how it changed her perspective on things. “Being pregnant makes you start thinking about other things in life that are important and one of those things is safeguarding the future for my kid, you know? I want to make sure that I can do my part.”

She added: “There is a disconnect between out actions and our beliefs, and all I’m asking is that people switch to cold water.”

“Literally, when you wash your laundry, use cold water. It saves so much energy. By using cold water you’re saving 80 percent of your energy outflow per household in the country.”

Now, five-months into her pregnancy, Vanessa says she has been through enormous “physical and emotional changes”, and she wants to be a “good mom”, and by helping protect the planet, she is doing her part.

When the conversation turns to her impending bundle of joy, she says she and Nick still don’t know the sex of the baby.

“We are going to find out before the baby shower and tell everyone then. I think it will be a nice surprise.”

She’s not backtracking on her comments, that a little Nick Lachey running around the house, would be adorable.

“I always envisaged a boy and having that mother-son bonding,” she says. “But I would be just as excited if it was a girl and i could dress her up. ”

“She’s be like a mini-me,” she adds with a laugh.

Talking of her pregnancy, she says: “It’s been good. I have no complaints. It’s a very interesting process.”

We’re sure her and Nick’s first bundle of joy will be as effervescent and likeable as the couple themselves.
