A Nutley, New Jersey woman is feeling the heat after allegedly taking her 5-year-old daughter to a tanning salon and causing a slight burn by allowing the child to allegedly use one of the tanning beds.
But the woman at the center of the scandal, for which she was arrested, insists that she never allowed her child to go on the tanning bed, and that it is all a misunderstanding.
While Patricia Krentcil, 44, admits that she has a love of tanning (which is fairly evident from just looking at her), she tells WCBS in New York that she would never tan her daughter Anna’s fair skin artificially.
“I’ve been tanning my whole life, going to the beach, tanning salons and so forth,” she says.
The 44-year-old danger mom doesn’t deny that Anna went to the tanning booth with her, but she insists that her daughter’s burns were the result of being in the natural sun.
WCBS reports: “Krentcil said when the school nurse asked her daughter how she got burned, she simply said, ‘I go tanning with mommy.’ However, the woman said her daughter’s burn was not from getting into a tanning bed, but from being outside and playing in the backyard.”
“The pediatrician said that she’s got a little sunburn, but it was that only weekend we were out doing the gardening,” she said. “I never once in my life let me daughter, especially at that age, go into a tanning booth.”
She describes the girl’s burns as not severe, and says she was told to put ointment on the rash, which she says is “just over-the-counter stuff.”
Krentcil has been charged with second-degree child endangerment, according to ABC News and she is currently out on $25,000 bail, while her daughter in now in her father’s custody.
