Dating a famous pop star may have its advantages, but more often than not, your heartbreak is exposed to the entire world.
Lady Gaga’s ex-boyfriend Luc Carl is opening up about his split with the singer, and alluding to the fact that he “hit rock bottom” when they first split in 2008.
Life & Style magazine have exclusive extracts from Luc’s forthcoming book.

Lady Gaga has never been shy about sharing her personal relationship stories with the world, and now her ex-boyfriend Luc Carl is following suit.
In his new book, The Drunk Diet: How I Lost 40 Pounds…Wasted: A Memoir, obtained exclusively by Life & Style, Luc reveals his rocky road with the pop star.
“My love life was a f–king mess (my girlfriend had just about enough of my bulls–t),” Luc writes in one excerpt, not directly naming the star, but describing his life in 2008, when he was overweight, drunk, unhappy, broke and dating Lady Gaga.
“The breakup with my girlfriend was my rock bottom,” Luc explains in the book. He admits, though, that he soon realized that he had pushed her away. “It took me about a week to realize she was right. I was f–king miserable, and it wasn’t her fault. It was my fault for being a drunk a–hole. I would have left me, too.”
But soon afterward, Lady Gaga’s career blossomed and Luc couldn’t escape seeing his ex in the media! “I was happy for her, of course, but I didn’t really need my ex shoved down my throat,” Luc writes in the book.
And even through all their ups and downs, Luc insists he was always faithful. “…I’ve never been a cheater,” he writes. “Women were never on my list of vices.”
However, Gaga, 25, who began dating Luc on and off in 2005, may have alluded that he betrayed her during their time together and perhaps was even an inspiration behind one of her songs from her 2011 album Born This Way. “I’ve had a lot of ex-boyfriends betray me — a–holes, we all have them. … I began to write a song [Judas] about an ex-lover who betrayed me, who loved heavy metal music,” she’s said.
For now, Gaga seems to have moved on from her bad romance. Ironically enough, she is currently dating Vampire Diaries star Taylor Kinney, whom she met on the set of her video for You and I, another song on the Born album inspired by Luc. They began seeing each other in late 2011.
The Drunk Diet hits shelves on March 13.
