The Nutrition Twins weigh in on the Brangelina bunch
The lovely ladies are back…
When it comes to celebrities and feeding their kids, they’re no different than the rest of us. They want what is best of their kids, but often do what is easiest or do what they know will make their kids happy. This doesn’t always mean what is best for their kids in terms of their health and nourishment. When it comes to fast food and dessert, kids certainly can enjoy it in limited quantities and still be healthy. So, Angelina taking the kids for In-N-Out and Baskin Robbins this week is really not a big deal if it’s balanced out with plenty of nutrient rich foods like whole grains, fruits and vegetables and lean proteins. We absolutely would not recommend Angelina doing this daily (or even every other day). When it comes to kids and nutrition, the key is to not allow the junk to crowd out the nutrient-rich foods. You want to do the opposite, allow the healthy foods to crowd out the junk foods.
We were surprised to hear that Brad has his kids hurry up and drink soda (we guess, he is human after all, we were convinced he was perfect! :) ) Giving kids soda to get them up and moving, is definitely something we’d advise against. A can of soda can have as much as 13 teaspoons of sugar in it and often is loaded with caffeine, which really shouldn’t be given to kids at all. Ideally, you want to make sure your kids are well rested enough and eat plenty of nourishing foods so that they always feel energetic and don’t have to rely on outside stimulants like caffeine and sugar. Plus, if you make a habit out of giving your kid caffeine, he may become dependant on it, become irritable, tired, achy, have a hard time concentrating and experience other withdrawal symptoms if he cannot have caffeine. Brad, wean your kids off the soda!
