The presidential debate’s biggest star: Big Bird asks ‘did I miss anything last night?’ - Within seconds after Mitt Romney made reference to the beloved Sesame Street character, Big Bird was trending on the internet

The stars of the show were intended to be Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, but a bird stole the spotlight in the first presidential debate in Denver last night.

The beloved Sesame Street character, Big Bird, became the biggest trending subject after Mitt Romney made reference to him during the debate.

When asked what he planned to cut to help  balance the budget, Romney said: “I’m going to stop the subsidy  to PBS. I’m going to stop other things. I like PBS, I love Big Bird.

“But I’m not going to keep on spending money  on things to borrow money from China to pay for.”

Which prompted one Twitter user to post the photo above of a Big Bird holding a sign saying he would work for food.

Another Twitter user summed it up perfectly, writing: ”Tonight’s debate winner: Big Bird.”

Big Bird, however, was unaware of his role in politics biggest night.

This morning he tweeted: ”Did I miss anything last night?”
