In the first presidential debate, Big Bird was the clear online winner. Now, a new craze has swept the internet following a comment (again) from former Gov. Romney.
In a response to inequality in the workplace, he said: “I went to a number of women’s groups and said, ‘Can you help us find folks,’ and they brought us whole binders full of women.”
The “binders full of women” quickly became the catchphrase of the night, spawning its own Tumblr blog, “Binders Full Of Women”, a Twitter account, a Facebook page with more than 193,000 likes, and countless online memes.
The Twitter account @RomneyBinders has already amassed 32,000 followers.
“Gov. Romney clearly misspoke. What he meant to say was that his platform wants to bind women to the 19th century,” the masterminds behind the account tweeted.
The comment from the Republican presidential candidate came in response to a question voter Katherine Fenton asked President Barack Obama.
“In what new ways to you intend to rectify the inequalities in the workplace, specifically regarding females making only 72 percent of what their male counterparts earn?” she queried.
