He vowed to turn his life around, but in the end, Ricky Naputi lost his race against time.
Weighing nearly 900 pounds, he was just 39 when he passed away in November 2012.
Naputi, who lived in the U.S. island territory Guam, was bedridden for five years and confined to his home, unable to walk or to bathe himself. He was cared for around the clock by his wife Cheryl.
His weight continued to balloon thanks a gut-busting diet of 10,000 calories a day.
Before his death, Ricky opened up his home to reality TV cameras from TLC, who followed him for three years and chronicled his battle to lose enough weight to travel to a hospital in the US. The cable network aired his story Wednesday night in a special called “900 Pound Man: Race Against Time.”
“The last time I got out and enjoyed myself must have been years. I miss feeling the sun on my face. Miss showering, feeling water run down my body,” he said.
But he was determined to try to shed some of the weight that was crippling him.
“I’m willing to try my best,” he said. “My one goal and my one goal only is to get my life back.”
