‘We’re all falling apart’, family of slain children speak out as NYC nanny is pictured with the kids she was entrusted to protect

As more and more details emerge of the two children who were bludgeoned to death while in the care of their nanny in New York on Thursday, the obvious question is: Why did this happened?

This is something the family of the slain little Lucia and Leo Krim are grappling with at present.

Their grandmother has given a heartbreaking interview to the New York Daily News, where she reveals that the Krim family treated nanny Yoselyn Ortega like gold and one of the family– even  paying for her trips back to her native Dominican Republic.

“They just bent over backwards being nice to this woman,” Karen Krim, the  mother of CNBC executive Kevin Krim, told the Daily News Friday.

“They were always doing things that were just fabulous for her. I’m just  astounded, and I have no idea why something like this would happen.”

Karen Krim said the nanny had always been an angel — at  least on the outside.

“My daughter-in-law, if she thought there was anything wrong, she would  have never left the two with her. This had to be something simmering inside  this woman. Obviously, she went insane.”

We’re just having a really, really hard time here,” Karen Krim added. “We’re all  falling apart … It’s the worst nightmare any parent could ever have.”

The grandmother’s comments come after it emerged that when the tot’s mom, Marina returned home from 3-year-old Nessie’s swimming lesson to discover the grisly scene and found Lucia and Leo’s bloody bodies in the bathtub, the heartbreak and devastation in her screams could be heard by all

“The mother was  bent over  her child on the floor, screaming and holding on to the  only live child,” a  neighbour, Charlotte Friedman, recounted. “They were primal screams, they were not human. They were very deep, dark screams.”

She added that she had seen the children with Ortega as they took the elevator together. Just half an  hour later, she heard the blood-curdling screams.

Do you think this horrible tragedy brings the issue of more stringent screening for nannies to the forefront?
